Three minutes thesis is competition which hold in University of Queensland, then spread over the world. Each candidate should be a Ph.D or Mphil student to be able to participate in this competition. Also, the participated student must present his thesis in three minutes or less. This afternoon, I went to watch the last steps in University of Queensland. The winner will fly to Perth this month for final 3 minutes thesis (3MT) over Australia and New Zealand. It a little bit challenge because the difficulty of summarising a lot of information in the short time for non specialized audiences. It's a creative idea to develop researcher skills. Congratulations for the winner who presented his thesis about error when police detective try to match figure prints. Eid Festival In Brisbane
Yesterday, I participated with Kalven Grove Saudi residents (Brisbane) for Eid festival as Arabic calligrapher, my colleague and I wrote visitors names on backside of nice pictures. These pictures from Makkah, Maddina, Madaen Salah, Jeddah, Riyadh. Meeting many people from India, Pakistan, Afganistan, Iran, Turkish and Lybia in addition many Australian who amazed me. Some of them interested in Saudi and Arabic. Other want to discover this culture or entertain themselves. I met an engineer who studied physics as a first-degree then worked in many Arab countries like Egypt, Oman and Kwiut, but Saudi Arabia wasn't one of them. He also speaks Arabic. I told him a joke about Nigerian friend who studied Arabic in Cairo-Egypt then he studied with me in King Saud University. He said: "One day I went to take a taxi in Cairo, but the taxi driver couldn't understand my because I spoke standard Arabic with someone who can understand my accent, then the taxi driver asked his mate to came. When his mate came he said in Egyption slang: look at man what he is saying unfortunately he doesn't speak Arabic!!.
One the other side, I met Pakistani girl who was born in Saudi Arabia and lived there until 18 year old, but she doesn't speak Arabic!
Also, I met many Asians, I remember when I had Arabic calligraphy's course in 2004 in my Uni (KSU) many of Chinese and Japanese write butter than us. I think that because writing these language needs a smooth a hand.
In The Train
This afternoon, I caught up the train from Brisbane city when an elder lady took a same coach. For moment, I thought she has Alzheimer because she spoke with other lady loudly then when she finished chatting with that lady, turned to other side then started advising teenagers students. However, someone did like this conversation so she changed her seat, I guessed. She told them the worst things a student may do them lying and cheating, then a few minutes later she asked one of them: where do you live? He said in Towoong, then she said I'm living in Towoong. Which street? He said nothing, so she said I'm in Milton road. As soon as he knew the name of any street in Towoong, said that my street. When he finished his word the train had stopped at other station so the young student pick up his stuff, then left the train. She noticed that saying "he is lying" and his colleagues agreed. At that time, I recognise she doesn't have a cognitive problem. To be honest, I prefer chatting with other than reading Mx or other newspaper, listening to audio or even reading some novels to pass a time. Having many crazy hobbies, one of them is observing how do people behave!. Unlike people in some countries, it's unused to hear passengers talking in trains if they don't know each other. I suppose that train's passengers do these things not a result of passion, but they want to a void watching people also shying to break the ice with other passengers.
Hello The World
This is my first blog. It is harder to choose a name for your blog. Also when you find the name it's a difficult to catch appropriate domain. However, I pick up this name to refer a variety of subjects that may you find them in this blog. That because my aim is developing my English writing. Flowers may read three or more blogs a week in many topics, stories or my notes about living in Queensland as a English student. So, be patient when you find many mistakes in these blogs and I'll be pleasant if you write a feedback about anything, especially, about my errors.
